What is the Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club?
The Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club is the official Democratic club of New York State's 74th Assembly District, Part D. It is located on the east side of midtown Manhattan, New York City. The Club serves our community by working with elected officials, community groups, and neighborhood associations. We also identify, interview, endorse, and elect Democratic candidates for local, state, and national office.
Who can be a member? Are there dues or other fees?
Any Democrat in the neighborhood can be a member. There are annual dues to pay for the costs of having a place to meet and other Club expenses. Dues are just $25 a year, $20 for seniors, and $35 for Sustaining Members. There are no additional fees. We hold a fund raiser in the Spring each year. No one is required to contribute to the fund raiser and we reach out to others in the community at that time. The fund raiser is the way we support neighborhood groups so it is an important part of our activities.
What is expected of members?
We hope that all members will attend meetings and participate in activities but there are no specific requirements.
I'm not a political "activist." Would I be comfortable as a member of the Club?
Everyone is welcome! Our members represent all aspects of the Democratic Party. Some are more active in political activity than others. You will never be required to participate in any activity and your opinion will always be welcome at meetings.
What if I don't agree with the Club's endorsements or other positions taken by the Club?
An endorsement by the Club and any other position taken by the Club indicate's the majority opinion. You will never be limited in how you express your personal opinion.
When are Club meetings?
Meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month. The schedule does change in order to accommodate other community activities and the schedules of our guest speakers. You will receive an email notice of all meeting times and places. If you do not have access to email you will receive a notice by regular mail or on the phone.
Where are meetings held?
We recently changed the location for our meetings to the Affinia Dumont Hotel, 150 East 34th Street, between Lexington and 3rd Avenues. Always confirm the meeting time and location when you receive your notice in the mail, by email, or on this web site.
Can I come to Club meetings if I'm not a member?
You do not need to be a member to attend meetings. All members of the community are welcome. We do hope that if you attend meetings you will want to become a member, but it is up to you.
