Drive for change

Obama for America
Dear Friends,

Join us in Pennsylvania Last week, Barack accepted the Democratic nomination with the support of 80,000 people in Denver and millions more watching at home. It was a historic and exciting moment.

In the days that followed, supporters all across the country turned that excitement into action by going out and registering tens of thousands of new voters.

It's exactly the kind of action that will help us succeed here in Pennsylvania -- but it's going to take all of us working together.

That's why this weekend we're organizing teams of supporters from across the northeast to come to Pennsylvania for our first big canvass of the general election.

Pennsylvania is a critical battleground state, and you can make a big difference for Barack.

Sign up to join your fellow supporters and travel to Pennsylvania this weekend, or any weekend before the election.

John McCain has made it clear that he intends to continue George W. Bush's failed policies. But the past eight years have been devastating for families across the country, and it's time for us to say: enough.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden will take on the old Washington politics and bring the change we need -- but they need your help.

You can make a difference right now by signing up to join our canvass in Pennsylvania this weekend.

This canvass is a great way to meet fellow supporters, grow this movement, and bring new voices into the political process. And no experience is required to participate.

Sign up for the canvass and make a short trip to make a big difference:

We can't do this without you.

Thanks,

"MoveOn for Obama" party
Dated: September 12, 2008

Dear Obama Supporter,

Angry at John McCain and Sarah Palin? Frustrated with the media? Fed up with the absurd direction this campaign has taken? Don't sit and stew. Use that energy to put Obama over the top!

On Sunday, September 21st, we're organizing hundreds of "MoveOn for Obama" calling parties nationwide. We'll reach out to every MoveOn member in every swing state to help them sign up to volunteer for Obama. If we can mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers for Obama in key states, we'll help push Barack over the top in November.

Plus, next week is MoveOn's 10th birthday, so we'll celebrate with cake and ice cream after we're done calling!

MoveOn members in your area will be eager to help, but they need somewhere to gather. Can you sign up to host a "MoveOn for Obama" party?

http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=136&id=13811-1447764-l8Nlzgx&t=4

Have you seen the polls? Now's the time we all need to jump into this campaign. If you host a party, you'll enable Obama supporters in your neighborhood to make hundreds of calls into swing states. That simple act—opening up your living room for an afternoon—will result in dozens more volunteers for Obama's powerful grassroots campaign in critical states like Ohio, Florida and Michigan!

And hosting a calling party couldn't be easier. All you'll need is access to a printer before the event and space where folks can comfortably make calls from their cell phones. We'll email MoveOn members near you to help build a crowd, and ask them to bring ice cream and cake to make it more fun for everybody.

In less than 8 weeks, America will choose the next president of the United States. 8 weeks! We all need to work hard now to make sure that's Barack Obama. Please sign up to host a party today:

http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=136&id=13811-1447764-l8Nlzgx&t=5

Thanks for all you do.

Note from Webmaster: You can get an extensive list of events in New York City and the Metopolitan area on the MoveOn web site by clicking here. Also, as noted below, there may be some confusion on a date listed in this announcement. Check with the organizer for clarification.

Dear Friend,
Looking for a way to make sure the McCain-Palin sleaze-o-rama doesn't derail Barack Obama's historic candidacy? With a few hours of your time, you could produce a bunch of new Obama volunteers in Ohio, Michigan, or on one of the other key swing states. Here's how:

This Sunday, we're throwing parties where we'll get together, hop on the phone and call 200,000 swing-state MoveOn member to get 'em out talking to voters. And since this week is MoveOn's 10th birthday, we'll celebrate with cake and ice cream after we hit the phones.

There's a party in New York—can you make it Wednesday? (Note from Webmaster: Sep. 21 is Sunday not Wednesday - check with the meeting organizer for clarification)
Here are the details:

Host: Yoo L—fellow MoveOn member
Where: 39th St. Between 7th and 8th Ave. (in New York)
When: Sunday, Sep. 21, 2008, at 5:00 PM

(6) More Letter Writing For Obama at Whole Foods on Houston, Upstairs
~ Writing to Virginia DFAers to help Obama, Mark Warner for US Senate, & Judy Feder for Congress
~ Can't make an event? Write letters from home - email tdenton@dfnyc.org

Carlos is planning to host more letter writing events at Whole Foods on Houston.  Tentative dates are:  Thurs 16th, Fri 17th, Thurs 23rd and Fri 24th.  Please check our website's events calendar for updates:  http://Dfnyc.org

Whole Foods is at 95 East Houston, at Bowery (1 block west of 2nd Avenue).  Subway:  F/V to 2nd Avenue stop.  we will be upstairs at the tables.  When you see a table with an Obama sign and people writing letters, that's us!

New York is not a swing state, but Democracy for America (the organization started by Gov. Howard Dean after his presidential campaign) has members all across the country.  We have lists from DFA of their members in Northern Virginia, which is now a swing state.  We are writing short handwritten notes (that do not look like regular campaign mail) encouraging them to volunteer for Obama's "Neighbor to Neighbor" program, http://barackobama.com/n2n, which will help them talk to Virginia voters.  We're also encouraging them to help Obama by volunteering for local Democratic candidate Judy Feder, who is challenging an incumbent Republican congressman in northern Virginia. By getting more Democrats out to the polls, volunteers will help Obama win Virginia and gain bigger majorities in Congress by also helping Judy Feder and Democratic senate candidate Mark Warner.

We will have letter writing materials for you and a sample letter.   If you can't join us, you can write letters from home. For addresses and a sample letter, email me, (Tracey) at tdenton@dfnyc.org or Merle Meldowney at merle.mceldowney@gmail.com.

(9) Volunteer to Protect the Vote on Election Day & Days Before Election Day
~ A message from DFNYC's David Kogelman

This year, Voter Protection on Election Day and the days leading up to it are more important than ever, both nationally and in New York State, where we are about to retake the State Senate.  The Republican voter disenfranchisement effort is stronger and more deceptive than ever, from viral videos that state that you can be kept from voting for wearing an Obama button (just take it off if someone objects), to letters warning college students that their parents can lose the tax exemptions for them if the student registers to vote where they go to college.

We can be sure that on Election Day they will pull out all the stops to keep Democrats from voting.  That's why its so important that every lawyer serve in the Voter Protection effort on Election Day. So, if you want to be on the front lines of winning this election in the polling place (you can serve as an inside poll watcher Only for a political party, not with a not-for-profit), please volunteer in New York State at www.nydlc.org, and for other states at www.mybarackobama.com/counselforchange.

We can return New York State to its position as the Empire State setting the example for the rest of the country, and can elect Barack Obama as President and usher in a new progressive era, showing the door to the neocons who have so damaged our nation, but it is up to every one of us to do our share.

This is not an election when any of us can sit on the sidelines or be complacent.  Your future, and that of your children and country, depend on it.
