Zhejiang University and University of Luxembourg inaugurate joint lab to explore interdisciplinary collaboration

On December 6,the inauguration ceremony of Zhejiang University - University of Luxembourg Joint Lab on Advanced Intelligent Systems and REasoning (ZLAIRE) was successfully held online. The event brought together over 30 delegates from both countries.

H.E. YANG Xiaorong, Ambassador of China in Luxembourg, praised the positive role of ZLAIRE in her opening remarks, “The joint lab will provide a brand-new platform for both countries to cooperate in interdisciplinary research and teaching, integrate resources for sci-tech innovations, and nurture high-caliber innovators.”

Other speakers at the ceremony were: H.E. Vincent Hieff, Consul General of Luxembourg in Shanghai; Prof. Stéphane Pallage, Rector of the University of Luxembourg; Prof. HE Lianzhen, ZJU's Vice President; Prof. HUANG Huaxin, Dean of ZJU's Faculty of Arts and Humanities; Prof. Jean-Marc Schlenker, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of Luxembourg. The inauguration ceremony was moderated by Prof. LI Min, Director of ZJU’s Office of Global Engagement.

Prof. LIAO Beishui, Co-director of ZLAIRE and professor from ZJU's School of Philosophy, hosted the following kick-off meeting and introduced ZLAIRE’s mission, vision and research directions. Scholars from various schools and departments including law, computer science, mathematics, physics and materials, control science and engineering, as well as life sciences and medicine presented both universities’ strengths and explored directions for future collaboration. An invited speech was given by Prof. Christoph Benzmüller, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Free University of Berlin. He shared his research on advanced intelligent systems.

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Luxembourg.With the MoU and student exchange agreement signed this May and the launch of ZLAIRE, Zhejiang University and the University of Luxembourg will further join hands to give full play to their interdisciplinary advantages, and contribute to China-Luxembourg and China-Europe people-to-people exchanges.
